Irish weather forecast: Sunshine to continue as Met Eireann predict temperatures to soar to 22C

The weather is expected to be warm and sunny today, Met Eireann say.

Sales of barbecues have soared due to the warm weather.

Get ready for a summer scorcher because today is tipped to be the hottest day of the year so far.

Ireland has been basking in glorious sunshine all week.

Met Eireann forecaster Liz Gavin told the Irish Mirror temperatures are still climbing.

She said: “Wednesday I’m giving temperatures up to 22C, so that’s a degree higher than Tuesday.”

This sweltering start to the summer season is sure to see suncream sales rocket as families flock to the beach.

A warmer than usual weather system has sparked this mild May.

Ms Gavin explained: “At the moment we have high pressure and that’s continuing to influence our weather now and for the next few days.

“So we are going to see dry sunny weather.”

The Midlands and north-west are tipped to be the hottest.

A light breeze will keep it cooler along the coastline. And enjoy it while it lasts because this early summer swelter will make way for a miserable weekend.

We will squeeze the last few drops of sunshine out of tomorrow before showers move in on Friday.

Ms Gavin said: “As we head into Thursday there will be more in the way of cloud around.

“We’re looking at temperatures a little bit down but still above normal, 16C to 19C on Thursday and then becoming more showery as we head into the weekend for Friday and Saturday.”
