Irish weather forecast: Status Yellow warning issued for Connacht, Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal and Longford ahead of heavy rainfall

Parts of the country are set for another wet and windy start today before temperatures soar tomorrow.

And a Status Yellow rainfall alert is in place for all of Connacht, Monaghan, Donegal, Cavan and Longford ahead of the deluge.

The alert came into effect at 7am and will remain in place until 7am on Monday.

Met Eireann said: "Through today and tonight, falls of heavy rain will give high rainfall totals with reduced visibility and a risk of localised flooding."

Golfers at The Open will have to deal with heavy showers and high winds this afternoon but tomorrow and Tuesday will see scorching sunshine.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: “This morning rain will spread across Ulster, Connacht and west Munster and to the rest of the country in the afternoon.

"It will be heavy at times with a risk of localised flooding, especially in Connacht and Ulster. Becoming dry in the south later this evening.

"Highest temperatures of 18C to 21C with fresh southerly winds, strong at times on coasts."

Tomorrow will then see things take a turn for the better, as things begin to heat up with scorching highs of 25C expected, warmest in Leinster and Ulster.

A forecaster said: “It will be mainly dry with a fair amount of cloud and some sunny intervals. There may be a little drizzle near south and west coasts.

"Very warm and humid with highest temperatures of 20C to 25C and moderate to fresh southwest breezes.

“Tuesday will be another very warm day with spells of summer sunshine.

“Later in the evening however, some rain will arrive in the west and south-west counties.”
