Irish weather forecast: Status Yellow rainfall warning in place as Met Eireann predicts 'dull and cloudy' day

A rainfall warning is in place for seven counties on Thursday morning, as Met Eireann forecasts a "dull and cloudy" day.

The national forecaster issued the Status Yellow alert for Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo, Roscommon and Sligo yesterday.

The caution was valid from 9am on Wednesday and will be in place until 9am on Thursday.

Despite being mostly overcast on Thursday, the rain will be lighter than Wednesday.

And some parts of Ireland could see "good bright or sunny breaks" in between showers.

Highest temperatures will range from 11C to 15C.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "A dull and cloudy start to Thursday. In the west and northwest the rain will gradually become lighter during the day with dry spells there for the afternoon.

"Elsewhere there will be showers again, with good bright or sunny breaks in between.

"Highest temperatures 11 to 15 degrees in light to moderate westerly winds."

A chilly summer night is in store for large parts of the country, as temperatures drop to as low as 3C.

A forecaster added: "Tonight will be mainly dry for much of the country, there'll be further showers along western coasts.

"Lowest temperatures 3 to 5 degrees with light southerly or variable winds."

Friday should be slightly warmer, but after a mostly dry start, counties in the west and east are to be hit with showers.

"Friday will be mostly dry to start, there'll be showers in the west with sunny spells for most, in the afternoon it will cloud over from the east with outbreaks of rain developing along eastern coastal counties.

"Highest temperatures 14 to 16 degrees with light southerly or variable breezes becoming moderate to fresh northwesterly in Munster."
