Irish weather forecast: Snow to hit as temperatures plummet to -1C

Snow is expected to hit parts of the country tomorrow, Wednesday November 13, as temperatures

Munster will face the brunt of the freezing conditions with "rain turning to sleet and possible snow" on Wednesday night, while Leinster is also expected to be affected.

Snow may fall in other parts of the country on higher ground.

With temperatures also expected to drop to -1C this evening, a Met Eireann spokesman said: "Overnight, a band of showery rain will develop in the west but further east a lot of dry weather will persist.

"It will be a cold night with frost developing as temperatures fall to between -1 and + 2 degrees, coldest in the east.

"A few patches of mist and fog will form towards dawn. Winds light or moderate and backing southwesterly overnight.

"Mostly dry in the east at first with a few bright spells. Rain over the western half of the country in the morning will be heavy and persistent with the risk of hail and thunder."

The continued: "The rain will spread eastwards through the course of the late morning and early afternoon.

"Much of Ulster will stay dry until evening time. Some of the rain will turn to sleet and possibly to snow in Munster in the late evening time but accumulations will be very limited.

"Highest temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees with moderate south to southeast winds that will be strong along south and southwest coasts.

"Wednesday night will be cold, breezy and mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain which will turn increasingly wintry over much of Leinster and Munster with snow on hills and mountains.

"The rain and sleet will clear southwards overnight with clear periods following and with frost and icy patches developing. Lowest temperatures of -1 to +2 degrees. with light to moderate northerly breezes."
