Met Eireann say we can expect a mix of showers and sunshine today with highs of 15C but there will be some bitterly cold nights ahead with temperatures dropping to freezing on Saturday night.
A forecaster said: "A bright and mostly dry start to the day with the occasional shower.
"The showers will become a little more frequent and heavier through the day and in the afternoon some of them will merge into longer spells of rain across parts of Munster.
"Highs of 12C to 15C in light to moderate northwest breezes."
Tonight will see temperatures plunge to lows of 4C or 5C under clear skies.
Meanwhile, Friday will be mostly dry with slightly cooler temperatures than recent days, highs of 9C to 11C in most places but 11C to 13C along the south coast.
Heading into the bank holiday weekend, anticyclonic conditions are expected to bring slightly cooler but plenty of sunshine and almost no wind.
Saturday "will be mostly dry and bright with good sunshine through the day, but fairly cool with highest daytime temperatures of only 9C to 12C in light northerly breezes."
And wrap up warm on Saturday night as temperatures will plunge to lows of 0C with grass frost developing.

Sunday will see similar conditions with highs of 9C to 12C. It will be bright and very calm also.
And Bank Holiday Monday looks set to be pleasant with dry, bright and cool weather expected.
