Irish weather forecast: Scorching 24C temperatures expected in south and east next week

Rain, drizzle and clouds dominated Saturday as revellers headed to festivals across the country but a big change is expected next week.

Weather charts show temperatures could reach a sizzling 24C, with the sunny southeast living up to its name.

A weather map on Meteologix.com shows toasty temperatures of 22C in the midlands and north of the country and highs of 24C in Gorey, Co Wexford on Tuesday afternoon, July 9.

The Slaneysiders look set to soak up the best of the sunshine at 3pm, with the capital also seeing highs of 24C by 4pm.

According to the forecast, north county Dublin will be the warmest area, with Balbriggan and Lusk seeing highs of 24C and other parts just a degree lower at 23C.

Met Eireann's current forecast for Tuesday indicates "warm and humid" conditions with "highs in the low twenties" expected.

However, they also said it would be "cloudy" with occasional rain and drizzle.

Looking ahead to tomorrow, the national forecaster revealed it will be dry with highs of 21C expected.

Met Eireann said: "A lot of dry weather on Sunday, with a mix of cloudy, misty periods and spells of hazy sunshine.

"The best of the sunshine over northern and eastern areas.

"Along the Atlantic Seaboard, some patches of drizzle may occur at times, mainly in the morning.

"Top temperatures 16C to 18C, over northern and western areas, but 19C to 21C, elsewhere, best in sunshine. Light to moderate north to northeast winds, but some local sea breezes also."

And Monday could see highs of 23C, however, the sunshine will be hidden by behind clouds.

A forecaster said: "Mostly cloudy, with outbreaks of rain and drizzle extending gradually from the Atlantic, mainly across Connacht, Ulster and north Leinster, but very patchy in Munster and south Leinster, with good dry intervals.

"Close and humid, with highs of 20C to 23C, generally, but Atlantic coastal counties will be fresher, with values in the high teens. Winds mostly light, southwest or variable."
