Odds plummet on chances of Ireland having white Christmas

The mercury isn’t all that’s plummeting this week as the odds for a White Christmas continue to drop.

On Wednesday morning, Met Eireann confirmed “some wintry falls” could be expected this weekend with the cold and frost set to continue into next week with sub-zero temperatures expected.

And it’s now a 7/2 chance that snow will be recorded at Dublin Airport on Christmas Day, with Belfast Airport 4/1 from 15/2 to see a sprinkling of snow on the 25.

Sarah Kinsella, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “The cold weather looks set to continue as the weather chiefs are saying sub-zero temperatures are likely with the chances of snow to fall this weekend.

“This has made punters keen on the chances of snow on Christmas Day.”

The cold weather is expected to stick around for the end of this week and the beginning of next.

A Met Eireann forecaster said that an "odd wintry fall" is forecast for higher ground next week, with highs ranging from just 4C to 7C.
