Irish weather forecast: Met Eireann warns of 'heavy bursts of rain' before sun returns with 23C highs

Parts of Ireland will be lashed by "heavy bursts of rain" on Tuesday - but sunny spells and high temperatures are to come later in the week.

Eastern areas are to experience heavy rainfall over Tuesday afternoon, while the west will get more patchy showers as well as some bright intervals.

Met Eireann has predicted that west Connacht and west Ulster will be mostly dry. Highs will range from 16C to 19C.

A forecaster said: "This morning will be cloudy with rain in most areas. West Connacht and west Ulster will stay mainly dry.

"This afternoon, in the east, some heavy bursts of rain will occur.

"Further west, rain will become more patchy and some bright intervals will develop.

"Highest temperatures of 16 to 19 degrees with moderate north to northwest breezes."

Showery rain will continue in parts of north Leinster and east Ulster overnight. Lowest temperatures will range between 10C and 12C.

The forecaster added: "Tonight, showery rain will mostly clear eastwards, but will continue for much of the night in coastal areas of north Leinster and east Ulster.

"It will be mostly cloudy with some patchy mist or drizzle in places. Lowest temperatures of 10 to 12 degrees."

Wednesday will start off wet, but it should turn into a mostly dry and sunny day.

Temperatures will soar to up to 23C over Thursday and Friday, as the national forecaster is expecting two "mainly dry (days) with sunny spells".
