Irish weather forecast: Met Eireann warn of 'unseasonably windy' weather as three warnings in place for six counties

Six counties are under weather warnings this morning as Met Eireann warned of "unseasonably windy" weather.

A Status Yellow wind warning will be in place for Clare and Kerry from 7pm on Thursday as 50 to 65 km/h winds and gusts of 90 to 110 km/h are expected - this warning lasts until 5pm Friday.

A separate alert has been issued for Galway and Mayo's warning starting at 9pm on Thursday and remaining in place until 9pm Friday.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "South to southeast winds, veering southwesterly early on Friday will reach mean speeds of 50 to 65 km/h with gusts of 90 to 110 km/h, occasionally higher in coastal areas and on exposed hills and mountains."

Meanwhile, Donegal and Sligo's warning comes into effect at 6am on Friday morning and last until 9pm Friday night with mean speeds of 50 to 65 km/h and gusts of 90 to 110 km/h.

Forecasters have also issued a weather advisory for the entire country and a Status Orange gale warning for all Irish coastal waters and on the Irish Sea.

A weather map from windy.com shows a flurry of activity off the west coast as rain and wind gradually pass over Ireland.

Met Eireann cautioned: "Unseasonably windy weather is expected to affect the country during the period.

"Given the time of year, there is potential for wind-related impacts such as debris from trees and movement of unsecured outdoor items."

The weather advisory will last 48 hours from 6pm on Thursday until 6pm on Friday.

Friday will be a cool, windy and showery with strong, very gusty southwest winds and gales near west and north coasts.

It'll start off bright the east but showers or longer spells of rain in Ulster, Connacht and west Munster will extend to all areas later this morning and continue for the rest of the day.

There is a risk of some thundery showers with hail.

It will feel cooler than recent days with highs of 12C to 16C.
