Irish weather forecast: Met Eireann warn Ireland will be lashed by hail and thunder this evening

Met Eireann have warned that parts of country will be hit by thunder and hail as a period of unsettled weather moves in this evening.

However, there is some good news on the horizon as a warm, sunny weekend is in store, with highs of 22C expected on Friday.

The worst of the wet weather will dissipate later on tonight, with dry and even sunny conditions expected tomorrow.

But the showers are set to return on Wednesday, strongest in the north.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Showers during the morning will become more frequent and heavier the afternoon /evening; occasional thunder and hail also in the heaviest showers.

"Highs of 12 to 17C in blustery westerly winds.

"The showers will become more isolated overnight with long clear spells developing. Cool with lows of 4 to 7C and the westerly breeze easing off.

"There will still be the odd shower during Tuesday but in general it will be dry and sunny most of the time. Highs of 13 to 16C in light northwest breezes.

"A fairly dry start to the day on Wednesday but increasing cloud will bring rain and drizzle to most places during the morning and afternoon.

"The rain will be heaviest and more persistent across the north of the country and lighter and more broken nearer to the south coast. Highs of 13C to 17C."

However conditions are expected to become much more settled later on this week as temperatures hit 22C on Friday, with a warm and sunny weekend on the cards.

Met Eireann added: "A lot of dry weather but misty conditions will continue to persist near the west coast.

"Becoming warm, especially in the east of the country where temperatures may reach 22C in sunshine.

"A good deal of dry weather overall this weekend, fairly warm with temperatures of 16C to 20C."
