Irish weather forecast: Met Eireann says we're in for temperatures of 25C before kids return to school

The weather gods are set to give back-to-school kids one last blast of summer before they return to the classrooms.

As tens of thousands of pupils march back for a fresh term for next Monday onwards, Met Eireann says summer looks like making a welcome return - but not until the end of the week.

And top temperatures could even hit 25C by the weekend.

Forecaster Matthew Martin told the Irish Daily Mirror: “Until Wednesday it will continue to be quite showery, breezy and unsettled like it has been for the last three weeks.

“But from midweek there are some signs that show high pressure will move towards the north of Europe resulting in an improvement. It is set to turn more settled with some rain and sunshine.

“From Friday onwards it is looking like it will be even better with a sunny weekend looking likely but it’s hard to say this early.”

After one Twitter user complained yesterday that she “seems to have woken up in November”, Mr Martin added that the unseasonably cool temperatures are also set to “improve”, showing signs that the summer isn’t over just yet.

“Temperatures are running one or two below seasonal average at the moment but by midweek we expect it to hit between one or two degress above average.”

It has been predicted that temperatures on Friday will reach values between 20 and 25 degrees.

The upturn will be welcome news to primary and secondary school kids who will be looking to have one final hurrah in the great outdoors before many of them return to their classrooms.

Meanwhile, Britain looks set to bask in a late summer heatwave with three weeks of warm temperatures forecast

after they also endured weeks of stormy conditions and persistent rain.

Forecasters there are even predicting that conditions could remain warm into September with the mercury edging towards 30C.
