Irish weather forecast: Met Eireann says gale force winds will batter Ulster on wet and windy Wednesday

Parts of Ulster will be battered by gale force winds on Wednesday.

Met Eireann is forecasting a wet and windy day for most of the country, despite some areas expected to get spells of sunshine.

The heaviest showers will affect northern counties, while the driest conditions will spread from the west in the evening. Highs will range from 13C to 17C.

A forecaster said: "Today will be blustery or windy with fresh to strong, gusty northwest winds, reaching gale force along the Ulster coast.

"There'll be a mixture of sunshine and showers, some heavy and some longer spells of rain in Ulster.

"Drier, brighter conditions will extend from the west this evening. Highest temperatures of 13 to 17 degrees."

It will be mainly dry overnight, but those clear spells will make for a chilly night. Temperatures are to drop to as low as 6C.

Winds will be gusty but speeds will ease off by Thursday morning.

The forecaster added: "Tonight will be largely dry with clear spells.

"Fresh, gusty northwest breezes will gradually ease and become light to moderate by morning. Lowest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees."

However, good weather news is on the horizon as the national forecaster is predicting a mini September sizzle with temperatures to reach around 19C later on this week.
