Irish weather forecast: Met Eireann says 'anticyclonic' conditions will bring plenty of sunshine over May bank holiday weekend

Met Eireann have revealed that "anticylonic" conditions will bring plenty of sunshine over the May bank holiday weekend.

Temperatures will be a lower than normal for the time of year, but with no wind or rain forecast weather experts said it would feel "pleasant" in highs of 13C.

Relatively warm conditions are also expected today, but early sunshine will turn to rain across many areas later today and into tomorrow.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Today will start out dry and bright with good sunshine.

"Cloud will increase through the morning from the west bringing showers on to western coasts by the end of morning, spreading eastwards through the afternoon.

"Temperatures will range between 12C and 15C, warmest in the east and winds will be light to moderate from a westerly direction, fresh and gusty at times especially near showers.

"Thursday, will be a similar day. Temperatures will range between 12C and 14C and there'll be further showers.

"Showers will combine to give longer spells of rain in the west and southwest and the rain will continue in western areas through the day, while elsewhere showers will become less frequent.

"Winds will be light to moderate west to northwesterly, becoming variable for a time in the afternoon and then northerly by the end of the day."

However it looks like being a dry, bright and sunny bank holiday, with "plenty of sunshine" expected throughout the weekend.

A forecaster added: "The bank holiday weekend looks like staying dry throughout as anticyclonic conditions prevail.

"Temperatures will be a little lower than usual for the time of year but will recover to near normal by the end of the weekend.

"There will, however, be little or no wind and plenty of sunshine so will feel pleasant despite the slightly lower temperatures - typically between 9C and 12 or 13C from north to south.

"The winds, light northerly on Saturday, becoming variable by Saturday night."
