Irish weather forecast: Met Eireann predicts 'sunny' start to Tuesday with highs of 17C

Large parts of Ireland will enjoy a dry and sunny start to Tuesday.

The afternoon will turn cloudier and scattered showers are expected, but highest temperatures could hit 17C.

Met Eireann is predicting the weather to become breezy, with the strongest winds forecast for coastal counties.

A spokesperson said: "Dry and sunny in many places on Tuesday morning with just a bit of cloud in the east and northwest.

"Cloud will build in the afternoon and a few scattered showers will develop. Highest temperatures of 14C to 17C.

"It will become breezy with moderate to fresh northerly winds, which will be strong at times along the coast."

The national forecaster is expecting a dry start to Tuesday night.

However, rain in the south east may spread to large areas in Munster and Leinster overnight.

Winds will continue to be strong along the coast, while lowest temperatures will range between 6C and 10C.

"Tonight will start largely dry with clear spells. Later in the night rain will spread form the southeast to most parts of Leinster and south Munster.

"Lowest temperatures of 6C to 10C. Northerly winds will continue fresh to strong along the coast."

Wednesday will be cooler, as highest temperatures look set to range between just 12C and 15C.

Met Eireann is forecasting a rainy day for most of Leinster and Munster, but Connacht and Ulster should see less rain and possibly some sunshine.

A forecaster said: "Wednesday will be a cloudy day for many with outbreaks of rain over most of Leinster and Munster.

"In Connacht and Ulster it will stay mainly dry with just patchy rain and a little sunshine.

"Cool with highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees, with lowest values in the east. Moderate northerly winds will be fresh to strong along the coast."
