Irish weather forecast: Met Eireann predicts sunny days with high temperatures - but weekend to see big change

Ireland is set to enjoy a few sunny days with warm temperatures - but a big change is on the way this weekend.

Most days during the week will see clear spells and highs of 18C in parts of the country.

However, Met Eireann said there is to be an "increase in shower activity" as a cooler spell of weather is due to arrive on Saturday.

A forecaster said: "Saturday will mark the beginning of a transition to a cooler spell of weather with showers spreading down from the north as winds become northerly in direction.

"Southern counties will likely fare best with the daytime temperatures in the high teens, which could also help to trigger some heavier showers.

"Much cooler everywhere by Sunday with brisk northeasterly winds accentuating the colder temperatures."

Meanwhile, Tuesday will be dry, but far breezier in many places than it has been in previous days.

There will be sunny spells, but parts of Munster and Leinster are due to experience some outbreaks of rain.

The forecaster said: "Dry, but breezy in many places today, Tuesday, with sunny spells. Cloudier in Munster and parts of south Leinster however, with outbreaks of rain and drizzle.

"Highs of 11 to 14 degrees under the cloud in the south and near the east coast also, in the onshore moderate to fresh easterly winds, but milder elsewhere with typical afternoon maximums ranging 15 to 17 degrees."

They added: "Dry and clear in many areas tonight, but cloud and patchy rain and drizzle will persist in Munster. Lows of 4 to 8 degrees generally, but down to 2 or 3 degrees locally in Ulster.

"Light to moderate east to southeast breezes will freshen in the south and west again towards dawn."

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will see highs of 18C and sunny spells, as well as rain showers.
