Irish weather forecast: Met Eireann predicts sizzling end to week as temperatures soar to 24C

A sunny weekend with high temperatures is in store for large parts of Ireland.

Met Eireann is forecasting dry and bright days at the end of the week as the mercury is set to rise to as high as 24C on Sunday.

Saturday will be warm, with highs of 19C to 22C, but it will be mostly cloudy.

A forecaster said: "Dry, with light northwest or variable breezes. A good deal of cloud about in some places, but some sunny spells developing as the day progresses.

"Top temperatures of 19C to 22C, best in sunshine."

And Sunday is shaping up to be hotter again, with the entire country expected to see long spells of sunshine.

A forecaster added: "Sunday will be a dry, bright day with sunny spells at times in all areas. Top temperatures 19C to 24C, in light to moderate variable breezes."

Meanwhile, the weather experts are predicting another humid day on Wednesday - but there will be widespread and some heavy showers over the afternoon.

"Some dry spells this morning, mainly in eastern and southern areas, but some rain too, especially over Ulster and Connacht.

"The rain will be more widespread this afternoon and evening and heavy in places. Close and humid, top temperatures 18C to 22C, in mostly moderate southerly breezes."

Thursday will be a little cooler, but it will be a drier day with the odd sunny spell.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Early rain in eastern areas soon clearing. A mix of cloudy periods and occasional sunny spells.

"Most places dry, but some scattered showers are likely. Top temperatures 17C to 20C, generally, but locally 22C, in parts of east Munster and south Leinster."

It will be as hot as 22C in parts of Munster and Leinster on Friday.

A forecaster said: "Some light showers about Friday morning, but these soon dying out.

"Skies will be partly cloudy, but with some sunny spells at times best later in the afternoon and evening. Top temperatures of 17C to 19C, generally, in a moderate northwest breeze.

"But values in south Munster and south Leinster may reach 21C or 22C. Dry overnight, with clear spells. Fresher too, with lows of 8C to 11C, in light northwest or variable breezes."
