Irish weather forecast: Met Eireann predicts hottest day of 2020 so far - but rain to hit parts Ireland

Temperatures in Ireland may reach as high as 20C on Friday making it the warmest day of the year so far.

However, Met Eireann is forecasting cloudy conditions and some rain showers in the west of the country.

The skies won't be as clear as  previous days, but it is to be warmer with the sunny south-east in for the best conditions on Friday afternoon.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Any mist patches clearing soon this morning to give a mainly dry day with spells of hazy sunshine.

"A few showers may develop in the afternoon. Cloudy along western coasts with some patchy rain and drizzle at times.

"Highest temperatures of 15 and 20 degrees, warmest in the east and light variable breezes."

On Thursday, a Met Eireann spokesman told the Irish Mirror: "We look at several models to get the best forecasts and in Dublin there may be spots which will get 21C to 22C.

"But overall in Dublin top temperatures will range from 18C to 20C.

"And with that, it will be cooler on the coast in places such as Howth, but also it will be warmer in inland locations.

"Anywhere east of the Shannon could get temperatures of 19C to 20C, especially in Leinster and north Munster.

"But the west will be colder with highs of maybe just 13C to 15C, and possibly even as high as 17C down in Clare."

A humid night is in store, with some patches of rain and fog expected too. Lows will range from 7C to 10C.

A forecaster said: "Mostly cloudy and humid tonight with scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle. Some patches of mist and fog also.

"Lows of 7 to 10 degrees with light variable breezes becoming west to northwest by morning."

They added: "Generally cloudy to start tomorrow with patchy drizzle dying out and low cloud and mist lifting to give a few brighter intervals.

"Further patchy rain and drizzle with develop in parts of the northwest later in the afternoon. Highs of 14 to 19 degrees, a little cooler along western coasts due to moderate westerly breezes."
