Irish weather forecast: Met Eireann predicts highs of 16C on 'cloudy and misty' Thursday

It's going to be another cool summer day as highest temperatures won't surpass 16C.

Met Eireann is forecasting a "cloudy and misty" day with scattered showers across the country.

However, some parts of Ireland - especially the west - may experience bright and sunny conditions over the afternoon. Highest temperatures will range between 11C and 16C.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Cloudy and misty, with some patches of drizzle and light rain about, but drying out gradually this morning.

"Some bright or short sunny spells developing - best in western areas, but a few well scattered showers also.

"Moderate northerly winds will be fresh and gusty on parts of the Atlantic Seaboard. Fresh and cool, top temperatures of just 11C to 16C."

It's going to be a cold, misty and foggy Thursday night as temperatures dip to as low as 3C.

Light showers will affect the western counties overnight, with heavier rainfall moving into the southwest early on Friday morning.

A forecaster added: "A few light showers tonight, mainly in Atlantic coastal areas, but otherwise dry. Misty, with a few patches of fog forming.

"Lowest temperatures 3C to 6C, in fairly slack variable breezes. Some heavier showers will move into the southwest towards dawn."

Apart from the showers in the southwest of the country, Friday morning should begin mostly dry and bright.

Looking ahead to Friday, Met Eireann said: "A bright start in most places on Friday morning, with sunny spells, but some showers too.

"The band of heavy showers in the southwest will become widespread over Munster and south Leinster by afternoon and extend further northwards through the afternoon and evening.

"Some thundery downpours of rain are likely in southern areas, with a risk of spot flooding. Top temperatures 11C to 15C, in freshening south to southeast breezes."
