Irish weather forecast: Met Eireann predicts highs of 15C but subzero temperatures to hit this week

Ireland will experience a mostly dry and calm bank holiday Monday, with parts of the country expected to see highs of 15C.

However, it's expected to get colder later in the week as subzero temperatures are to hit on Thursday night.

Met Eireann is forecasting a cloudy Monday, and some showery outbreaks of rain are to affect parts of Ulster. Highest temperatures will range between 9C and 15C.

A spokesperson said: "Some hazy sunshine today, but overall cloudy.

"Whilst there will be a good deal of dry and calm weather some showery outbreaks of rain will affect Ulster with just isolated showers elsewhere.

"Top temperatures of 9C to 14C or 15C, mildest in the southwest, coolest in the north and east."

Misty rain will hit parts of the country on what will be a mostly dry Monday night.

A spokesperson said: "Generally dry conditions overnight but there will be some misty rain in parts too. Lowest temperatures 3C to 8C in near calm."

Tuesday will be slightly colder and more rain will fall, especially in the southern counties.

There will be a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers. Highest temperatures will range between 9C and 14C.

A spokesperson said: "Some bright or sunny spells on Tuesday with well scattered showers - Munster and east Ulster will see most of these.

"Later in the evening more general rain will begin to move into southern counties.

"Highest temperatures 9C to 14C, mildest across the midlands and south Connacht, in light southeast breezes."

Wednesday will be cooler again with highs of 11C during the day and lows of 1C overnight.

Widespread showers may lead to some flooding on Thursday, with parts of the country at risk of experiencing thunder and hail showers.

It will be a bitterly cold night, with temperatures set to plunge to as low as -1C.

Friday will be calmer with sunny spells, but temperatures won't exceed 11C. It will be as cold as 0C on Friday night.

Met Eireann said Ireland will experience warmer weather next weekend, but it will still be very cold at night.
