Irish weather forecast: Met Eireann predicts cracking weekend with sunny spells and highs of 19C

Ireland is set for a cracking weekend with clear skies and temperatures of 19C expected.

The mercury will plummet to around 7C on Friday evening - with a notable chill in the air.

But while night time temperatures are beginning to feel a little more seasonal, day time conditions will remain mild for the next few days, with plenty of sunny spells forecast.

Friday will get off to a cool start with light rain and drizzle in the south of the country. This is expected to make way for brighter, sunny spells in the afternoon.

Met Eireann forecaster said: "Friday will see top temperatures of 14 to 18C, with best values in the south-east.

"There will be lows of 7 to 11 degrees in light to moderate west to northwest breezes tonight."

Temperatures will remain as high as 18C on Saturday with sunny spells persisting along with a few light showers.

The forecaster said: "On Saturday, it will be dry and bright in many areas with variable cloud amounts and sunny spells.

"A few light showers are possible around the middle of the day. Winds will be light northwesterly with afternoon highs of 15 to 18 degrees.

"Dry with long clear periods on Saturday night. Chilly, with lows of 5 to 9 degrees in near calm conditions."

Sunday will be the nicest day of the weekend with the mercury likely to reach up to 19C.

The forecaster added: "Sunday will see a cool start in many areas, and rather cloudy for a time in the west with a few showers. Overall the day will be dry and bright with sunny spells.

"Light breezes at first becoming moderate southwesterly. Mild in the afternoon, with temperatures of 16 to 19 degrees.

"It will cloud up in western counties during the evening and rain will track across the country overnight."

Looking ahead to next week, it appears that wetter, cooler conditions will make a return.

Temperatures on Monday are expected to reach between 13-16C with stronger winds expected to blow in off the Atlantic.
