Irish weather forecast: Met Eireann predicts bleak few days as rain showers show no sign of stopping

Large parts of the country will continue to see experience rainfall on Wednesday - but a mostly dry night is expected.

Met Eireann is forecasting rain for Ulster, Leinster and Connacht during the afternoon.

But the weather chiefs are saying the south of Ireland will see drier and sunnier conditions. Highest afternoon temperatures will range between 11C and 15C.

A spokesperson said: "Rain will continue through north-Leinster, Ulster and parts of Connacht but it will brighten up across the south of the country throughout the day. Highs of 11 to 15C, in northwesterly breezes."

The national forecaster says northern counties will continue to be hit by rain overnight, while the rest of the country remains mostly dry.

Overnight temperatures may dip to as low as 3C.

A forecaster said: "Further rain in the north overnight but a good deal of dry weather elsewhere. Fog patches likely to develop. Lows of 3 to 8C."

Thursday will be slightly warmer, but large areas will be hit by heavy showers.

Friday is to be warmer again, but there'll be a mix of sunny spells and heavy showers.

A Met Eireann spokesperson added: "Rain will finally turn to showery weather during Thursday, but the showers will be heavy through the afternoon and evening. Highs of 13 to 16C in light breezes.

"On Friday there'll be sunny spells and heavy showers with many of the showers occurring over the western half of the country. Highs of 14 to 17C in light breezes."
