Irish weather forecast: Met Eireann predicts 20C swing as glorious sunshine to follow subzero temperatures

Ireland will experience freezing cold nights with subzero temperatures this week - but some cracking days are expected with highs of up to 18C.

Met Eireann is forecasting conditions as cold as -2C on Monday night and -1C on Tuesday night.

However, temperatures are set to soar over the following days with parts of Ireland set to enjoy warm, dry and sunny spells.

The week's weather will start off pleasant with sunshine and highs of 15C expected - although the east will be much cooler.

Monday

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Mostly dry and sunny today in light to moderate easterly breezes, however it will start out cloudy in parts.

"It will be mildest in the west and south with seasonal highs of 12 to 15 degrees, but cool in the east with onshore breezes, and highs of only 9 to 11 degrees.

"Cold, calm and clear tonight with some frost. Lowest temperatures of -2 to +2 degrees."

The weather chiefs are predicting temperatures of up to 17C on Tuesday and Wednesday, but they could dip to as low as freezing point on both nights.

Tuesday

"A cool bright start to Tuesday with frost clearing, in just light southerly breezes.

"Dry and mostly sunny and overall feeling milder with highs of 12 to 17 degrees, best values away from southern counties.

"Cold and calm on Tuesday night with long clear spells. Some frost is possible, along with local fog. Lowest temperatures of -1 to +2 degrees.

Wednesday

"Wednesday will be another dry and sunny day with light easterly breezes. Feeling milder with highs of generally 14 to 17 degrees, but again it will be cooler in southern and eastern coastal counties owing to onshore breezes.

"Cold and clear after-dark with some frost and local mist. Lows of 0 to 4 degrees, in light easterlies."

Rain will fall at times of Thursday and Friday, but some cracking conditions are expected with parts of Ireland set to bask in temperatures of up to 18C.

Thursday

The Met Eireann forecaster said: "Mostly dry and sunny in light northeasterlies. Highs of 13 to 18 degrees, coolest along northern and eastern fringes.

"It will be mildest across the southwest, with some showery rain possibly breaking out here towards nightfall.

"Scattered outbreaks of showery rain will move up from the south in turn overnight. Lows of 4 to 8 degrees, coolest in the north where it will remain dry.

Friday

"Scattered outbreaks of rain, mainly affecting Munster and Leinster.

"Some sunny spells too, with the best of these across the north and east. Highs of 12 to 16 or 17 degrees, mildest in the west and southwest."
