Irish weather forecast: Met Eireann predicts 20C as parts of Ireland to bask in Indian summer

It's going to be a warm start to the week in parts of Ireland as an Indian summer continues to hit the country.

However, it's going to be a chilly night in some areas as temperatures are set to plunge to as low as 3C.

Met Eireann is forecasting rain and mist for Monday morning, but the clouds should clear, leaving sunny skies. Highs will range from 14C to 20C, with the highest values expected in the south.

A forecaster said: "Monday will begin cloudy, with rain, drizzle and mist across the southern half of the country, becoming confined to southern counties.

"Sunny spells will gradually break through across the northern half of the country by early afternoon, with brighter skies reaching remaining areas later in the day.

"Highest temperatures will range 14 to 20 degrees (north to south), in light north to northeast breezes."

Monday night should remain dry, but the clear spells with bring colder temperatures.

Mist and fog will form across inland counties, while lows will range between 3C and 8C.

A Met Eireann spokesman said: "Dry but rather cold tonight with clear spells.

"Mist and fog setting in later, especially across inland areas. Lowest temperatures will range 3 to 8 degrees in near calm."

A good run of days are expected this week, with values as high as 22C to hit from Thursday onwards.

A forecaster explained: "Most of the days should bring long spells of autumn sunshine, with light breezes (increasing moderate southeasterly later in the week).

"However, cloud will spill into north and northwest areas at times with some patchy drizzle along northern coasts during Wednesday.

"Temperatures will continue to improve day by day, ranging 17 to 20 degrees on Wednesday and 18 to 22 degrees on the days thereafter, possibly higher in some parts.

"Chilly enough at night however, especially Tuesday and Wednesday after-dark when temperatures may drop to the low single figures locally. Some shallow mist and fog patches by night too."
