Irish weather forecast: Met Eireann predict freezing conditions and frost - but big change on the way next week

Ireland is set for a cold night with freezing conditions and frost in many areas - but a big change is on the way next week.

It will be a relatively mild day on Sunday with pleasant sunny spells in the afternoon and highs of 11C in places.

However it will turn cold tonight, with temperatures dropping to 0C with frost in the south and east.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Dry today with good sunny spells, though it will be cloudy at first in the west.

"After a cold start with patchy frost, temperatures will rise to between 9 and 11 degrees this afternoon. Southeast breezes will be no more than moderate in strength.

"Tonight will be dry as well with clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 0 to 3 degrees with a touch of frost across Munster and Leinster. Southerly winds will be mostly light inland and moderate to fresh along the Atlantic coast."

But there is a big change on the way at the start of next week, with sunshine and highs of 13C expected by Tuesday.

A forecaster added: "Monday will be a dry day with the best of the sunshine in the east of the country.

"It will become breezy in fresh southerly winds with strong winds along the Atlantic coast. Highest temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees.

"Tuesday will be a breezy day with fresh southerly winds. Most areas will remain dry. It will be cloudy in the west and southwest with perhaps a few outbreaks of rain.

"Elsewhere in the country some sunshine will develop. Highest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees. On Tuesday night, rain will slowly spread across the west.

"The rain will slowly move further east on Wednesday with drier and brighter weather developing in the west later."

The forecast for later in the week is less clear, with experts currently predicting a slightly colder day on Thursday and Friday, but with plenty of dry and sunny spells.
