Irish weather forecast: Met Eireann predict 17C temperature swing as mild and sunny week on the cards

Temperatures will take a 17 degree swing tomorrow as a mild and largely sunny week is on the cards.

Today will be warm and mostly dry with sunny spells and highs of 16C, but it will drop to freezing in places overnight, with frost possible.

However temperatures will rise again on Thursday to a very mild 17 degrees, although there will be some showers in places.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Starting off cool today with a few showers across the northeast and east.

"However, most areas will stay dry today with spells of sunshine, and moderate northeast winds. Sunny across most parts this evening.

"Cool though in Leinster and Ulster with maximum temperatures of just 9 to 12 degrees Celsius; but milder elsewhere with maxima ranging 12 to 16 degrees Celsius, best values across southwest counties.

"Tonight will be dry and clear, apart from a few showers across northern coasts later. Cold in light northerly breezes; lowest temperatures of 0 to 4 degrees Celsius, with some possible late season frost.

"Dry and sunny on Thursday, however cloud will build at times with a few showers breaking out over Ulster. Feeling milder with maximum temperatures ranging 11 to 17 degrees Celsius, best values across the southwest of Munster. Winds will be just light variable mostly northerly in direction."

And temperatures will continue to rise into the weekend and the start of next week, with a period of warm weather on the way.

A forecaster added: "Continuing mainly dry on Friday, outside of well scattered showers across the north and northwest.

"The best of the sunshine will occur in the morning, but overall the afternoon and evening will bring cloudy skies. Maximum temperatures of 12 to 16 degrees Celsius, in light to moderate northwest breezes.

"Dry after-dark under broken cloud with minimum temperatures ranging a rather cold 2 to 5 degrees Celsius.

"A trend towards milder weather is signalled with temperatures widely reaching the mid-teens or higher later this weekend.

"Not fully dry however, with some scattered falls of rain and drizzle at times across Atlantic counties, and turning breezy on Sunday.

"The further outlook is very mild or warm. Some rainfall will affect the southern half of the country on Monday but beyond that it looks largely dry with hazy sunshine, and light south to southeast breezes."
