Irish weather forecast: Met Eireann officially issues Status Red warning for Clare as Storm Hannah approaches

A Status Red weather warning has officially been issued for Co Clare by Met Eireann as Storm Hannah approaches.

Gusts of up to 150km/h are expected to batter Clare as Storm Hannah hits Ireland on Friday night.

The warning will be valid between 8pm and 11pm on Friday.

A Met Eireann warning said: "Northwesterly winds, associated with Storm Hannah, will reach mean speeds in excess of 80km/h with violent gusts of 130 to 150 km/h for a time this evening."

The storm is hurtling across the Atlantic and is expected to hit the southwest coast of Ireland.

Met Eireann has warned people in Galway, Cork, Kerry, Clare, Tipperary, Waterford and Limerick to be ready for "possible disruption and power outages".

A Status Orange alert will be in place for Cork, Kerry and Limerick between 4pm on Friday and Saturday at 1am.

The orange warning is in place for Galway between 7pm and midnight, while it will be valid for Tipperary and Clare between 10pm on Friday and 2am on Saturday.

A Status Yellow wind warning has also been issued for Connacht, Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Wexford, Wicklow, Offaly, Donegal, Tipperary and Waterford from 11pm on Friday until 9am on Saturday, with gusts of up to 110km/h.
