Irish weather forecast: Met Eireann issues two nationwide warnings as Storm Dennis looms

Two nationwide weather warnings have been issued as Storm Dennis approaches Ireland.

Met Eireann has issued the Status Yellow alerts as the country gets set to be battered by gusts as powerful as 100km/h and thundery rain.

And a large amount of rainfall is expected to cause flooding in some areas.

The wind warning will kick in for every county at 3am on Saturday, and will expire at 8pm that night.

And the rainfall caution will be valid between 6am and 9pm on Saturday.

A Met Eireann spokesman said: "Very squally Southerly winds veering Southwesterly with mean speeds 50 to 65 km/hr gusts to around 100 km/hr, strongest on exposed coasts and hills. Winds moderating from the Northwest later."

He added: "Spells of heavy, locally thundery rain, on Saturday will lead to some flooding."
