Irish weather forecast: Met Eireann issues Status Orange wind warning for two more counties as Storm Hannah looms

Every county in Munster has now been issued with a Status Orange wind warning as Storm Hannah approaches.

Large parts of the country are set to be battered by gale force winds and gusts of up to 130km/h on Friday night.

Met Eireann is forecasting a miserable start to the weekend for southern counties, with Tipperary and Waterford having their yellow warning upgraded as of Friday morning.

The warning will be in place from 10pm on Friday until 2am on Saturday.

A weather warning says: "In addition to the yellow wind alert for these counties: Southwest winds veering northwest will reach mean speed of 65 to 80km/h and gusts of 110 to 120km/h for a time tonight."

Irish weather forecast: TWO weather warnings issued for 20 counties as Storm Hannah to hit Ireland with winds of 130 km/h  

Cork, Kerry, Clare and Limerick are to be the worst affected counties, with an orange wind alert valid between 4pm on Friday and 5am on Saturday.

A Met Eireann spokesperson said: "Becoming stormy on Friday evening and overnight as Storm Hannah moves in.

"Southerly winds, later veering northwesterly will reach mean speeds of 65-80 km/h with gusts of 110 to 130 km/h."

Meanwhile, 14 other counties have been issued with a Status Yellow wind warning, as gusts of up to 110km/h are expected.

The warning for Connacht, Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Wexford, Wicklow, Offaly and Donegal will be valid between 11pm on Friday and 9am on Saturday.

Overall, Friday will be a damp and cloudy day, which will see "damaging" gusts and persistent rain. Highest temperatures will range between 8C and 12C.

A spokesperson said: "Damp and mostly cloudy this morning with scattered outbreaks of rain, but some dry periods also.

"A spell of more persistent rain will start to extend from the southwest by this afternoon.

"Winds will increase over southern and western parts of the country from late afternoon, with severe and damaging gusts developing in the southwest of the country as Storm Hannah approaches. Cooler than of late, with highs of 8 to 12 degrees."

West Munster will experience the worst of the severe winds overnight.

The strong gusts will make their way across the country, but the storm will ease as the night goes on. Lowest temperatures on Friday night will range between 3C and 6C.
