A rainfall warning has been issued as high seas and gale force winds are set to batter the northwest of Ireland.
Met Eireann has issued the Status Yellow alert for Donegal, Galway, Mayo and Sligo.
The 24-hour caution will be valid from 3pm on Friday, with up to 50mm of rain expected to fall.
The weather chiefs have also warned that the large amount of rain may lead to flooding in some areas.
A spokesman said: "Heavy rain with accumulations of 40-50mm over the period with localised flooding.
"At the coast, high seas and strong to gale force southerly winds will combine to give a risk of coastal flooding."
Friday will begin bitterly cold following nighttime temperatures of as low as -2C.
There will be early spells of sunshine, but cloud will thicken and rain will start to spread across a large chunk of the country.
A forecaster said: "A cold, crisp and frosty start on Friday, with good spells of sunshine at first.
"Cloud will thicken from the west through the morning in a freshening southerly breeze.
"Rain will push into Connacht, Ulster and north Leinster through the day, with patchier rain in the south.
"Becoming increasingly windy through the day with strong and gusty southerly winds countrywide by evening and gales expected in western and northwestern coastal areas. Highs of 9 to 11 degrees."
