Irish weather forecast: Met Eireann issues another Status Yellow rainfall warning, this time for Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal

Met Eireann has issued a Status Yellow rainfall warning again today, this time for Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal.

They forecast heavy thundery downpours this afternoon and evening with a risk of localised flooding.

The warning is valid from 12pm today until 9pm tonight.

Earlier the warning was valid until 6pm for the whole Connacht province.

Meanwhile, there is also a Status Yellow small craft warning in place.

Met Eireann warns that southwest winds will reach force 6 today on Irish coastal waters from Wicklow Head to Roches Point to Slyne Head, all around the southeast, south and west of Ireland.

The warning was issued at 5am on Tuesday.

Earlier, the meteorological service warned of thundery downpours  today as the weather turns rainy for the week.

We can only expect the rain to clear up by Sunday as the forecast is for showers every day this week, sometimes turning more intense.

However, there will be scattered patches of sunny weather, especially on Thursday.

Firstly, rain showers will develop today with occasional heavy thundery downpours.

Met Eireann said this will mainly take place over the northern half of the country, with temperature highs of 17 to 21 degrees in westerly breezes.

Tonight, the showers will become isolated and overnight there will be long, clear periods.

Temperatures are only expected to drop as low as 11 to 13 degrees, with some fog patches as the breeze dies off.
