Irish weather forecast: Met Eireann issue Status Yellow wind and rain warnings for six counties as 110km/h gusts expected

Met Eireann have issued Status Yellow weather warnings for six counties for today and tomorrow.

A warning for rain is in place for Clare, Cork, Kerry and Limerick with up to 60mm expected.

The alert began at 12 noon on Friday and will last until midnight on Saturday.

It reads: "From Friday afternoon to midnight on Saturday night, rainfall amounts of 30 to 60mm with a risk of spot flooding. Highest amounts will be in Co. Kerry, especially in mountainous areas."

And a second warning was issued for strong winds in Wexford, Cork, Kerry and Waterford, as gusts of up to 110km/h are expected.

It is valid from 11pm tonight and will remain in place until 6am on Saturday morning.

A Met Eireann forecaster added: "Overnight, West to southwest winds, veering northwesterly, will reach mean speeds of 50 to 65 km/h with gusts of 90 to 110 Km/h, and higher in coastal and mountainous areas of Kerry and Cork."

Weather experts warned Ireland will suffer "disturbed, wet and windy" conditions this weekend with heavy rain, hail and thunder set to hit.

A forecaster said: "Tonight will very blustery with occasional heavy showers. The showers will be prolonged and very heavy in the south and west - some squally.

"Southwest winds veering west will be up to gale force widely with some severe gusts in the south and southwest with the risk of flooding. Lowest temperatures 5 to 8 degrees.

"Saturday will be a cool cloudy and very blustery day. Heavy showery rain will continue across the midlands, south and west with further squally downpours.

"Some dry spells too in the east. Southwest gales widely with severe gusts in the south. Highest temperatures 11 to 13 degrees."
