Irish weather forecast: Met Eireann extend Yellow rain warning to Carlow and Wicklow

Met Eireann have extended their Status Yellow rainfall warning to two other counties as a deluge continues to lash the south and southeast of the country.

A Status Yellow alert was issued for Kilkenny, Wexford and Cork yesterday and it has since been updated to include counties Carlow and Wicklow.

The national forecaster said: "Spells of rain during the period with spot flooding likely."

The warning will remain in place until 6pm this evening.

Meanwhile, a Status Orange rain alert remains in place for Tipperary and Waterford since 3pm yesterday until 6pm today.

Met Eireann warned: "Heavy rain during the period will cause spot flooding. Accumulations in excess of 50mm possible in some parts."

A whopping 31.6mm of rain was recorded at Cork Airport yesterday while 9.5mm fell at Shannon Airport in Clare.

Further rain will continue tonight, heaviest over the eastern half of the country with a continued risk of spot flooding in places.

Lowest temperatures of 3C to 6C.

Friday will continue mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain in most areas. Highest temperatures of 7C to 9C with moderate easterly breezes.
