Irish weather forecast: Mainly dry with sunny spells but further heavy rain on Wednesday

Parts of country were lashed with heavy and thundery showers yesterday evening but this morning is looking nice and bright.

Met Eireann say Tuesday will be mostly dry with sunny spells and scattered showers in parts.

A forecaster said: "Mist and fog patches will clear in most areas this morning and many areas will be dry today, with bright or sunny spells.

"However, scattered showers will occur in Ulster and much of Munster will be cloudy, with outbreaks of rain and drizzle in the morning, becoming more patchy during the day, with dry intervals developing."

The last few days have been slightly cooler and highest temperatures are set to reach 15C to 19C today.

Looking ahead to tomorrow, we'll see highs of 21C, warmest in the east and southeast but also further heavy showers with a risk of thundery downpours.

And Met Eireann have warned that the changeable and unsettled conditions are set to continue throughout the week.

A forecaster said: "Tomorrow morning will be mostly cloudy, with patchy rain and drizzle, but it will brighten up gradually during the day, with sunny spells developing.

"Scattered showers will extend from the Atlantic, heaviest and most frequent in the northern half of the country in the afternoon and early evening, with a risk of thundery downpours in Ulster."

Heading into Thursday, it will start off dry but wet and windy conditions will lash the country later in the night.

A forecaster said: "Mostly dry, with some bright spells and hazy sunshine, but cloudy intervals in most areas also and there is a small chance of a few light showers along Atlantic coasts.

"Maximum temperatures 16C to 19C, in light to moderate mainly westerly breezes.

"Thursday night will become wet and windy, with outbreaks of rain extending from the Atlantic, turning heavy in many areas, with fresh to strong southerly winds."

Thursday night will remain mild, with minimum temperatures of 11C to 14C.
