Irish weather forecast: Ireland to sizzle in 23 degree temperatures hotter than Majorca for Easter weekend

A chilly spell across Ireland is set to break by the Easter weekend - and Mediterranean sunshine could send temperatures soaring to 20C on Good Friday.

Temperatures in Ireland could be warmer than hotspots such as Barcelona and Majorca over the holiday, bringing a welcome end to weeks of Scandinavian cold and rain.

The weather will improve throughout the week to give a dry and warm bank holiday weekend throughout much of the country, according to Met Eireann.

And Met Eireann forecaster Liz Walsh believes it could get hotter again on Saturday and Sunday.

She told the Independent: "As we progress into the week, it's going to start getting warmer.

"By Easter weekend, we could see temperatures of up to 23C - a much better outlook for the holiday weekend.

"So we just have to get through this period and the weather should be warm and settled."

Tuesday is to be damp and cloudy, with highest temperatures ranging between 13C and 15C.

But Wednesday and Thursday are to be dry days with sunny spells, with highs of 17C to 18C.

The forecasts for Friday, Saturday and Sunday are still "very good", but rain is to return next week, according to Met Eireann.

Meanwhile, yellow wind warnings were issued for Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Cork, Kerry, Dublin, Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Wexford, Wicklow, Offaly, Leitrim, Roscommon, Sligo, Clare, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford. All warnings are due to end between 5pm and 7pm on Monday.
