Irish weather forecast: Ireland to escape UK snow as 'beast' Hurricane Lorenzo to bring tropical air

Snow is not expected to affect Ireland as Hurricane Lorenzo continues to make it's way towards us.

Forecasters in Britain are predicting that they will receive their first snowfall of this winter with an Arctic plunge set to bring temperatures of -2 in parts of the UK.

But Met Eireann is forecasting that the storm will actually cause temperatures to rise in Ireland, meaning we won't be on the receiving end of snow flurries.

The hurricane is likely to downgrade to a tropical storm by the time it lands on our shores but has already made history as the strongest hurricane recorded this far north and east in the Atlantic.

It reached category five on Saturday night before downgrading to category three 24 hours later.

Lorenzo is expected to hit Ireland on Wednesday night or Thursday morning, but will first strike the Azores on Tuesday night.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "On Thursday Lorenzo (currently predicted to be a ex tropical storm at this stage) is likely to be in the vicinity.

"It's exact track and central pressure is still very uncertain as is the timing.

"It is most likely to track northwards and stay to west of Ireland. Some wet and windy weather is expected but nothing exceptional at this stage.

"It will become mild over the country due to the influence of the tropical origin air.

"The risk of severe weather continues and the progress of Lorenzo and any potential impacts for Ireland are being closely monitored by Met Eireann."
