Ireland will bask in a glorious day of sunshine as temperatures hit 25C this afternoon.

Areas along the west coast will see some showers early in the day, but these will ease in the afternoon.

A Met Eireann spokesperson said: "Today will be warm. The eastern half of the country will be mainly dry with sunny spells.

"It will be cloudier further west with outbreaks of rain in west Munster and parts of Connacht and Ulster.

"Highest temperatures of 17C to 19C in the west and reaching 20C to 25C in the midlands and east with light breezes."

Sunday will be more or less the same as today, starting out cloudy before the sun scorches at 25C later in the afternoon.

Monday will be dry in most areas with temperatures dropping slightly down to around 21C.

It will be warmest in the east and the south, but sunshine in the west will turn to cloud and rain in the evening.
