Irish weather forecast: Ireland set to sizzle with 20C temperatures and "good sunshine" on the way

After weeks of dreary dull weather, it seems our summer may be finally on the way.

Met Eireann have predicted highs of 20C with "good sunshine" expected during the week.

Unfortunately, it's not starting just yet with a mix of sunny breaks and showers expected today.

A forecaster said: "Isolated showers and showery rain will become more widespread through the day with occasional thundery downpours this afternoon and evening.

"A few sunny breaks also. Highs of 13C to 17C in southwest breezes."

The showers will become more isolated again tonight with longer clear periods developing and lows  of 7C to 10C.

Looking ahead to tomorrow, Monday will see better sunshine and longer dry periods but further showers as well and highs of 15C to 18C.

Tuesday will be the best day of the week with a lot of dry weather during the day with good sunshine and highs of 16C to to 20C.

However, there will be some showers in Ulster and north Connacht.

A forecaster added: "Little change for Wednesday; showers over more northern counties but often dry and and sunny elsewhere. Highs of 16C to 20C".

Thursday will see showers become more widespread throughout the country but there will be good sunny spells also. Highs of 14C to 17C in westerly breezes.
