Irish weather forecast: Ireland set to be hotter than Madrid as Met Eireann forecast 20C sunny Easter Bank Holiday Saturday

The long lockdown Easter weekend got off to a sizzler on Friday – and forecasters have predicted temperatures will hit 20 degrees making Ireland hotter than Madrid.

Met Eireann forecast top temperatures of 15 to 20 degrees and it will be warmest in the south and east.

They posted on Twitter: "Most areas will be dry today with sunny spells developing in light westerly breezes.

"Top temperatures of generally 15 to 20 degrees, warmest in the south and east.

"Cooler along north and west coasts with some rain here by evening."

Rain and drizzle in the west and northwest early tonight will gradually extend countrywide overnight.

However on Sunday morning rain is set to batter the country.

They said: "Showery spells of rain to begin on Easter Sunday, generally heaviest and most persistent in the south and east.

"The afternoon will become largely dry over Ulster and Connacht with sunshine developing.

"Cloudier elsewhere with outbreaks rain persisting, gradually clearing away southwards. Cooler and breezier than recent days; highest temperatures of only 9 to 12 degrees."

Monday will be dry and generally sunny with just patchy cloud at times with highest temperatures of 13 degrees

Monday night will be cold with clear spells and some frost likely

Tuesday is set to be gnerally clear and sunny with light southerly breezes. with highs of 15 degrees.

Wednesday and Thursday will see marginally warmer conditions with sunshine for most, staying cool at night with a slight chance of frost.
