Irish weather forecast: Ireland set for 'wet and very windy' week as ex-Hurricane Humberto moves in

Ireland is braced for a period of "wet and very windy" weather as the remnants of ex-Hurricane Humberto arrive next week.

Today will remain warm but there is a possibility of "heavy and thundery downpours" in places as a sunny period of weather starts to come to an end.

And more showers are expected tomorrow, as weather experts warn next week is set to be "very unsettled".

Hurricane Humberto remains in the Atlantic, but wind and rain associated with the cyclone will have a big impact on Ireland next week.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Dry and bright at first today with some hazy sunshine, best in northern and eastern areas.

"Rain in the southwest will become more widespread over southern and western areas as the day progresses.

"A few showers are likely to break out elsewhere, with the risk of a few heavy and thundery downpours. A breezy day with top temperatures 17 to 21 degrees.

"Tomorrow, Sunday will start cloudy and damp in the north and east of the country with showery outbreaks of rain. Brighter conditions will spread from the west through the afternoon.

"Further showers will develop with some heavy downpours possible. Highest temperatures of 16 to 18 degrees."

And next week will see some big changes, with strong wind and rain expected all the way up to the end of next week.

A forecaster added: "Staying very unsettled into next week with some wet and very windy interludes.

"Monday will begin bright and dry in most places.

"Another spell of rain and strong winds will push into the west before midday and will quickly spread countrywide with fresh and gusty southeasterly winds. Highest temperatures of 16 to 18 degrees.

"More rain will follow on Tuesday although some areas may see some dry weather. Winds will be generally moderate but fresh to strong along southern coasts.

"Highest temperatures of 16 to 18 degrees.

"Continuing wet and windy on Wednesday with further outbreaks of showery rain and temperatures in the mid to late teens.

"Present indications are for a continuation of distinctly unsettled cool and windy weather for the second half of next week."
