Irish weather forecast: Ireland set for sunny weekend but temperatures to plummet to -2C at night

Ireland looks set to enjoy plenty of sunshine over the weekend, but temperatures will plummet at night.

Saturday will be relatively warm compared to the past few weeks, with temperatures rising as high as 13C in places.

While Sunday and Monday will be slightly cooler, rain will stay away for the majority of the coming days.

But a sharp dip in temperatures each evening will bring both frost and icy patches across the country.

A Met Eireann spokesman said: "Generally dry today with variable cloud and good spells of sunshine.

"Feeling cold in a brisk northeast breeze which will be fresh to strong in coastal areas. Highest temperatures of 8C to 10C in the north and east, a little milder in the south and west with highs of 10C to 13C.

"Cold and dry tonight, with long clear spells, especially in the northern half of the country where temperatures will drop to -2C to 0C, with some patchy frost. A little cloudier further south with lows of 0C to 2C. Northeasterly winds will moderate overnight, falling light in the north and west.

"Good spells of sunshine for much of the country tomorrow, although there will be some cloud in southern and eastern areas.

"Quite cold for this time of the year with highs of just 5C to 7C in Ulster and east Leinster, 7C to 9C elsewhere. Moderate northeasterly breezes will be fresh along southern and southeastern coasts.

"Dry and mostly clear on Sunday night, with a widespread frost. Lows of -2C to 2C, coldest in Munster and Leinster, in a light northerly breeze."

Monday will be largely the same, but will be hit by some light showers in the late afternoon.
