Irish weather forecast: Indian summer hits Ireland as high temperatures set to stay

An Indian summer continues to hit Ireland as temperatures of 20C and above are expected over the next week.

Met Eireann is forecasting high pressure over Ireland for most of next week.

The back-to-school good weather shows no sign of stopping, with parts of Ireland to bask in highs of 21C on Thursday and Friday.

A forecaster said: "High pressure will be centred near or over Ireland for much of the week, at least until next weekend, giving largely dry and calm weather.

"There will be good sunshine in most areas. Daytime temperatures will increase a bit each day, ranging from 16 to 19 degrees on Tuesday, 17 to 20 degrees on Wednesday and 18 to 21 degrees on Thursday and Friday.

"Nights will be quite cool with minimum temperatures of 5 to 10 degrees, and some fog may form. Later in the week the nights will become milder."

The warm weather is likely to continue into the weekend, but the chance of rain is higher.

The forecaster added: "From Saturday onwards the chance of rain increases, though it looks like it will stay fairly warm."

Meanwhile, Sunday will be another hot day with some parts of the country seeing temperatures of 20C.

However, parts of Ulster, Leinster and Connacht will experience persistent rain at times.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Mostly cloudy today with scattered outbreaks of rain. The rain will be persistent at times in Ulster, north Leinster and Connacht.

"It will be mostly light and patchy over much of Munster and south Leinster. The south coast will stay largely dry.

"Temperatures will range from only 14 degrees in the north to 19 or 20 degrees in the south. Winds will be mainly light, southwest or variable."

Sunday night will be mostly dry, with some southern counties staying really warm as overnight lows aren't to dip below 15C. Parts of the north will be as cold as 7C.

"Still a little rain or drizzle early tonight but it will become largely dry later with clear spells.

"Lowest temperatures ranging from 7 or 8 degrees in the north to 14 or 15 degrees in the south in light westerly or variable winds."
