Irish weather forecast: Highs of 17C today and mercury to hit 'low 20s' next week

The weekend is nearly here and Met Eireann have some good news.

While Irish people won't be jetting off on sun holidays any time soon, we can bask in the rays at home with highs of 17C expected today.

However, parts of Ulster and Connacht will be hit by scattered showers and cloudy conditions.

A forecaster said: "It will stay dry further south and east with some bright or sunny spells.

"Maximum temperatures will range 12C to 17C degrees, mildest in Munster. Winds will be light, northwest or variable."

It will be much cooler tonight with lows of 2C to 6C and a risk of grass frost.

Meanwhile, the east and south will enjoy sunny spells again on Saturday but it won't be as nice elsewhere.

Met Eireann said:"Cloud will increase generally though with some scattered showers affecting parts of the west and north.

"During the afternoon and evening, rain is likely to move across northern parts of the country with the south becoming dull but staying mainly dry.

"Highs of 12C to 16C in moderate west to southwest breezes."

Heading into Sunday, it looks set to be a mostly cloudy and breezy day across the west and north, with outbreaks of rain and drizzle, becoming persistent and heavy in northern parts of Ulster later in the day.

But next week looks more promising, with temperatures set to reach the low 20s after a mild Monday with highs of 14C to 19C.

It will be largely dry in other parts for much of the day with a mix of cloud and bright or sunny intervals, but patchy rain and drizzle spreading here too in the evening.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "At the moment it looks warm for Tuesday and Wednesday with temperatures in the high teens or low 20s in a southerly airflow, though nearer to the mid teens near the South coast."
