Irish weather forecast: Highs of 15C today but 'wet and windy' conditions to hit next week

We're in for a day of sunny spells and passing showers, with more rain expected this weekend and next week, Met Eireann have revealed.

The national forecaster said that while temperatures will reach highs of 15C, we'll also see "persistent" rain in parts of the country this week.

Met Eireann said: "Rain in the southeast will clear quickly this morning to leave a day of sunny spells and passing showers.

"The showers will be most frequent near western and northwestern coasts with good dry periods between showers.

"Highest temperatures of 12C to 15C with fresh to strong southwest winds easing later in the day."

Saturday will start off chilly but it will be bright with sunny spells and scattered showers.

Most of the showers will be in Atlantic coastal areas in the morning, extending further east during the day.

However, eastern and southern coastal areas will be mainly dry.

The scattered showers will continue in Atlantic areas and will become "persistent" in southern and southeastern areas.

Sunday will start off dry in northern areas but heavy slow-moving showers or longer spells of rain in the south and southeast will extend to many areas during the course of the day.

Highest temperatures ranging 11C to 15C in mostly light southerly breezes.

Showers will ease for a time overnight but a spell of heavy rain will move in from the south later. Minimum temperatures of 4C to 8C in light, variable breezes.

Monday will be "wet with outbreaks of rain" in many areas on Monday but some drier, brighter interludes will develop later in the day, especially in the west.

Temperatures will hit highs of 11C to 14C in gusty northerly winds.

Monday night looks set to turn mostly dry overnight and rather chilly under clear skies with lows of 4C to 7C.

And a forecaster revealed areas of low pressure will bring "wet and windy" weather to Ireland next week.
