Irish weather forecast: Heavy rain with risk of flooding this weekend but highs of 15C also

It's set to be another dull cloudy day but the weekend will bring much more "unsettled" conditions with heavy outbursts of rain and a risk of localised flooding.

Met Eireann have warned of rainy and windy weather ahead but the good news is temperatures will remain mild with highs of 15C expected.

Thursday will see patchy rain, drizzle and mist, mainly in the west and north but it will remain largely or completely dry in south Leinster and parts of Munster.

Southern counties will enjoy good bright intervals with highs of 8C to 12C, coolest in the north.

The mercury will drop to as low as freezing point overnight with patchy frost expected also.

Meanwhile, Friday looks set to be mostly cloudy with occasional light rain or drizzle in places.

There will be some limited bright or sunny spells will also occur.

Highest temperatures will reach 9C to 11C generally, but just 7C or 8C in north and west Ulster. Light west to southwest breezes.

Saturday will be dry in most areas, with a good deal of cloud. Some patchy rain and drizzle will occur, mainly in coastal counties of the south and east.

It will be breezy, with moderate south to southeast winds, fresh or strong in coastal areas.

Saturday night will see heavier rain lash much of Munster and Connacht accompanied by strong gusty winds.

And more heavy rain will hit on Sunday, with western and southern counties getting the worst of the deluge.

A forecaster said: "A mild and blustery day with outbreaks of rain in the west and southwest spreading eastwards as the day goes on.

"The rain will be heavy at times, especially in western and southern counties, with a risk of localised flooding."

Parts of Ulster and north Leinster may escape the rain until evening, though.

Temperatures will remain mild with highs of 11C to 15C in fresh to strong and gusty southeasterly winds.
