Irish weather forecast: Heatwave to hit Europe as Ireland to see temperatures of 27C

Major cities in Europe are experiencing a heatwave over the coming days with temperatures reaching heights of 40C.

Ireland will see temperatures of up to 27C later this week and Britain will experience highs of 30C.

Madrid, Berlin, Paris, Brussels and Frankfurt are only some of the cities on high alert as hospitals and nursing homes are set to suffer the most.

Temperatures in Madrid are set to reach 41C on Thursday and Friday, with Paris reaching 40C on the same days.

Germany will also see highs of 40C in the coming days.

In Ireland temperatures are set to rise but not to the same extreme extent as other European countries.

Met Eireann has said that temperatures will reach 24C tomorrow and soaring as high as 27C on Thursday.

The heat will be felt most in the midwest and will be a little cooler in coastal regions due to north and east moderate winds.

As the mini heatwave sets in over the next few days beaches in Dublin have been closed off to bathers due to low quality water.

Seapoint, Sandycove and the Forty Foot bathing areas have all been closed by Dun Laoghaire - Rathdown County Council due to an “overflow discharge of wastewater”.

They said that this occurred at a number of wastewater treatment facilities and pumping stations in south Dublin after the period of heavy rainfall.
