Irish weather forecast: Heatwave on the cards as Met Eireann predicts 'well above normal' temperatures

Heatwave conditions could well be on the way to Ireland again as Met Eireann is forecasting "well above normal" temperatures.

After two bleak months of wind and rain, summer finally arrived at the end of June - with one Kerry weather station recording a high of 29.2C.

And while it has been cooler over the past week, the weather chiefs are predicting soaring temperatures once again.

Looking ahead at the weekend, a Met Eireann forecaster said: "Staying essentially fine and dry with light winds and well above normal temperatures."

Ireland is to experience a hot and humid week, with rainfall expected to be lower than the average for this time of year.

Monday and Tuesday will be mostly cloudy, but some areas will see good spells of hazy sunshine.

The mercury will be as high as 22C on Monday, with the warmest conditions expected in the south.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Generally cloudy today with many areas remaining dry.

"Scattered patches of drizzle or light rain will occur too - mainly near west coasts and over northwest and northern areas.

"Some warm hazy sunny spells too, best over the south and east.

"Light variable mainly southerly winds with sea breezes near coast. Highest temperatures will range from 16 degrees in the north to 22 degrees furthest south."

A relatively warm night is in store for Ireland, with lowest temperatures ranging from 11C to 14C.

It will remain humid and mostly dry, apart from scattered showers in parts of Connacht and Ulster.

A forecaster added: "Scattered patches of light rain across Ulster and parts of north Connacht tonight; otherwise dry.

"Misty in places. Humid. Minimum temperatures 11 to 14 degrees."

Tuesday is to be warmer, with parts of Munster and Leinster expected to experience highs of 24C.

A forecaster added: "Still a few patches of drizzle or light rain in the north tomorrow; otherwise dry with variable cloud.

"Good spells of hazy sunshine - best over the midlands, south and east. A warm humid day.

"Highest temperatures ranging from 17 degrees in the cloudier north to 23 or 24 over inland Munster and Leinster. Light variable winds with sea breezes near coasts."

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are to remain warm, as highs stay in the low 20s.

It should be more sunnier than previous days, despite places getting hit by "well scattered showers".
