Irish weather forecast: Grim few days ahead before return to 21C heat later next week

Ireland is set for a wet and windy few days, but things look set to improve later next week.

Sunday will be windy with showers in parts, while temperatures will hang between 14C and 18C.

Monday will bring high winds and some heavy showers, which will turn widespread as the day goes on.

But despite an unsettled start to the week, temperatures are set to get warmer in the coming days.

A Met Eireann spokesman said: "Mostly dry today with sunny spells and just isolated showers.

"Highest temperatures of 14 to 18 degrees, highest in the southeast in moderate to fresh west to northwest winds.

"Cool, breezy and showery on Monday. Showers will become widespread through the late morning and continue through the day.

"There'll be sunny spells and temperatures will reach 14 to 17 degrees, once again the higher temperatures in the southeast of the country. West to northwest breezes will be fresh and gusty, especially around showers."

They added: "Unsettled early next week with cooler and fresher conditions. However, there are tentative signs for warmer weather later in the week."
