Irish weather forecast: Dry and sunny weekend in store with highs of 22C - and there's more good news

A dry and sunny weekend is in store for most parts of the country with highs of 22 degrees expected.

And there's more good news on the horizon as temperatures are set to rise even further at the start of next week.

Forecasters are predicting it will stay largely dry on both Saturday and Sunday, however there will be occasional showers in the west today, and some cloud in the north tomorrow.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Today will be mainly dry and sunny.

"Light variable winds over land will become northwesterly later and there'll be a sea breeze at the coast in the afternoon.

"A few showers may develop, these most likely in the west and southwest. Highest temperatures of 18 to 22 degrees, warmest in the east and southeast.

"Tomorrow, Sunday, will once again be mainly dry with isolated showers.

"It'll be cloudier in the north and through east Ulster.

"Highest temperatures will range between 18 and 21 degrees and a light to moderate northwest wind will veer northerly later."

And conditions are set to remain dry and warm in most areas at the start of next week, although it will turn slightly wetter on Tuesday.

A forecaster added: "Monday will be dry with sunshine for the bulk of the country.

"Highest temperatures will range between 18 and 23 degrees with light variable breezes.

"There's a risk of increasing cloud in the south bringing rain on to southern coasts. It'll be mainly dry overnight.

"Tuesday will see showers with the risk of longer spells of rain in Leinster.

"There'll be dry, sunny spells for most too though. Winds stay light northerly in direction through until Wednesday when they will become light to moderate northwest.

"Temperatures stay at around the seasonal normal with little change expected in the extended outlook period also."
