Irish weather forecast: Cold frosty start to the week with lows of -1C

It's a cold and frosty start to the week, with frost in many areas, particularly Munster and Leinster this morning.

However, frost and any mist or fog patches will give away to reveal a dry day with some sunny spells.

Highest temperatures will reach 8C to 11C in the daytime before plunging to lows of -1C after dark.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Tonight will be cold and mainly dry with some clear spells and a few patches of mist or fog.

"Lowest temperatures of -1C to 3C with frost in places."

Heading into Tuesday, it'll continue mainly dry with a fair amount of cloud and some sunny intervals.

Top temperatures will reach 9C to 11C with light to moderate north to northeast breezes.

But once again, the mercury will drop after dark with lows of 1C to 4C with a mix of drizzle, clear spells and cloud.

Wednesday will see similar conditions with dry and mainly cloudy weather.

The best of any sunshine will be in the east  while the north and west will see cloudier skies, with perhaps the odd light shower.

Highest temperatures will reach 7C to 10C degrees with moderate northwest breezes. Wednesday night will be mainly dry.

However, rain will develop in the northwest overnight with night-time lows of 1C to 4C.
