Irish weather forecast: Chilly dry day ahead with 'limited bright spells'

While last week brought bright sunshine as Irish people stayed home and practiced social distancing, this week looks set to be colder and cloudier.

Tuesday is set to be another chilly but dry day with temperatures dropping to freezing point tonight.

And there'll be similar conditions throughout the week with some frost expected on Thursday night.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Today will be a mostly dry day with limited bright spells. Isolated showers will occur, mainly in the north and east of the country."

Top temperatures will reach 8C to 11C, in light to moderate north to northeast breezes before plunging to lows of 1C to 4C or as low as 0C to -1C in places after dark.

Heading into Wednesday, it'll be cloudy with the east and south enjoying the best of any sunny spells.

There will be some rain or light drizzle at times with highs of 8C to 10C.

Meanwhile, Thursday will start dry in the east and south.

However, small outbreaks of rain and drizzle in the west and north will gradually spread southeastwards through the day.

A forecaster said: "Highest temperatures of 9C to 11C with moderate to fresh west to northwest winds.

"Generally dry on Thursday night with clear spells and lows of -1C to 2C with some frost forming in the eastern half of the country."
